I have never been much of an ice cream person. On television
you see girls who just got dumped going to town on a big bowl of ice cream. I
have never understood why. I don’t find a bowl of frozen milk and sugar
comforting. Sure, I like ice cream and would not turn down a cone from Bev’s
even on a cold day like today, but it does not do anything for me in times of
stress. The food that I go to when I am feeling overwhelmed is most definitely
cake and pizza.
For reasons much too boring to get in to here, I have been
feeling stressed lately. This is why a trip to Shindigz (5716 Patterson Ave) was completely
necessary. The past two Fridays in a row, I have found myself eating cake for
dinner. I say that, “found myself” as if I discovered it by surprise. I went to
the cake shop. I purchased the cake. I knew exactly what I was doing.
I am glad that once in a while I do know what I am doing, unlike
a girl that I observed this past week at my favorite cake place. She was sitting
outside at a table with some friends and I could not help but over hear what
she said to the waitress. “I’ll just be having coffee.”
I wanted to smack her in the back of the head (the girl, not
the waitress). First of all, you are at a cake shop. I get it that the slices
of cake that Shydigz serves can easily feed four people, but I still call foul.
Buy your own damn cake if you are going so far as to visit a cake shop. You
wouldn’t go to a cupcake shop and share a cupcake, or to a frozen yogurt store
and share your froyo. Be an adult and take your cake like a man or woman, or
whatever.
Secondly, it is 7:00pm. If your night begins with a hang out
at a dessert place your plans probably do not include anything so adventurous
that you need the second wind from a caffeinated beverage. Most likely you are
going to end up on a couch watching bad tv. And no I am not projecting my
problems on this innocent bystander. She is the one who ordered the coffee.
I don’t know why I am so flustered by the thought of someone
not ordering a piece of cake at Shyndigz, but I am really taking it personally.
It left me feeling just as stressed as I was when I started. Clearly, I take my
cake very seriously.
Tell me. What do you eat when you are stressed?
Brownies. Chocolate chip cookies. Loaves of banana or pumpkin bread. Peanut butter straight from the jar. My stress isn't picky, as long as its sugar :)
ReplyDeleteSugar is key in stressful situations. Love it!
DeleteI eat everything, or nothing. One day I'll eat an entire pizza and a dozen cupcakes, and the next day I'll have a cup of coffee and think about having some yogurt. This sounds extremely unhealthy now that I'm typing it...
ReplyDeleteI've never been to this place before?? I'm definitely an ice cream girl through and through however a slice of fluffy iced cake is not something I'll turn down - just sayin! Good seeing you at Hardywood this past weekend too - hope y'all had a fun rest of the weekend :)
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you, too! You MUST go to Shindygz. Their cakes are amazing.
DeleteShannon, it's a bit of an overkill. Although I am sure you will live to regret that soon enough. And yes, their cakes are great!!! Vitamins for Energy
