stella’s

Photo by Liz for Virginia Bloggers
A couple of weeks ago, I posted how I love to hang out with people who are training for a marathon. Well, I take it back. I hate it. While I am starving myself to fit in a dress for Fashion Week, she sits there casually consuming delicious sausage, pan fried potatoes and fried eggs. Ok, so maybe she ran over 30 miles this week including mountain running and I only did 30 minutes on a treadmill, but that is not the point.

My torture was really my own fault because I am the moron who planned brunch at Stella’s (1012 Lafeyette St) when I was cleansing. I only care about being skinny for three weeks out of the year, Fall Fashion Week, Spring Fashion Week and my birthday week. There are plenty of other weeks that I could have made brunch plans. If we went on another week, I would have gone to town on a sausage skillet or a lamb burger with a fried egg or perhaps some poached eggs covered with tomato hollandaise. I would have been more than happy to indulge in a pomegranate mimosa or a peach bellini or both. But no. None of these things could happen on this particular week while I am eating vegan and drinking only water while taking supplements to promote digestive health (read: lose 5 pounds).

Clearly, my desire to fit in a size zero is not as strong as my love of feta because I had to order spanikopita and a Greek omelet. I made it as a vegan for 4 days with no drinking. I am only human. WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?! Sorry about that. Mood swings tend to happen when you are coming down off of booze processed foods.

Stella’s, I will be back to enjoy brunch under a more normal circumstance. And I will be ordering the Lafayette, two phyllo cups with poached eggs, loukaniko sausage, manouri cheese, sautéed onion and portabella mushrooms topped with sundried tomato hollandaise. It will be mine…and so will a bellini. Until we meet again.

  1. Sounds like your next meal at Stella's will be quite decadent :) I have been meaning to try this place out for years, and I always end up forgetting about it when it's time to choose a restaurant! Gotta keep this one in mind, I LOVE greek...
Oh Ps., I was at Mekong the other day and tried your usual, flat rice noodles with chicken. I was all, nom nom nom.
