For the holiday weekend, we didn’t make it to the beach, but I did wear my hair in beach-y waves with no blow dryer which is a big deal for me. I was not blessed with no fuss hair and probably definitely looked like a crazy person.

The whole weekend was spent laying around the house, reading books and taking walks in the neighborhood. So due to my lack of a desire to brush my hair or put on makeup, when it came time for dinner on Monday night the options seemed limited. I didn’t want to go anywhere where I could potentially encounter another human, but I also sure as hell was not going to be cooking anything and ruin all the laziness that I had mastered over the weekend.

The answer, Sidewalk Café (2101 W Main St). There was the possibility that other human beings would be at Sidewalk, but I was craving spaghetti and picked the place I thought most likely to be open on Memorial Day and most likely to be dimly lit.

There were a handful of people there when we got there. We snagged a booth and the waitress brought menus. The specials of the day were handwritten on a piece of lined note paper that was torn out of a notebook and in half. This validated that I had appropriately chosen a no fuss location.

I had the spaghetti with marinara baked with cheese. Evan had the fettuccini carbonara.  Both were our own personal comforts on a plate. Mine was rich with tomato and melty mozzarella, perfectly plain and tasty at the same time. His was buttery and bacony with a sweet surprise from little green peas. These were no culinary masterpieces but they sure tasted good. Ending a lazy weekend with a simple (massive) plate of food that you know is no good for you seemed an appropriate end to a weekend of doing nothing productive on purpose.

What is in store for this weekend? We are going to the Off Broad Appetit Dinner!!!! Thanks to help from family and friends (and a couple of my buyers on ebay), we scraped enough cash together to get two tickets. After that, Broad Appetit!
