What do you get when you cross a goat and an avocado?

You get a goat.

The goat would most definitely eat the avocado in this scenario.

What do you get when you want a vegetarian lunch, made with local ingredients and prepared with pizzazz from a food truck on the VCU campus?

Why I am not writing for Letterman with jokes like this is a mystery to me.

I was feeling very lucky when my coworker called in a very tasty hookup and had vegetarian sandwiches delivered to our office on a cold and rainy day this week. These were no ordinary veggie lunches and this place does not deliver. That is why it is called a hook up.

What we got were vegetable masterpieces on crusty baguettes that delighted even my most carnivorous coworker.

I swapped halves so that I could try two sandwiches and mooched a bite of soup, too, because with a menu like this, you just have to try everything! My absolute favorite was the Haberdash. There were so many flavors layered on, that it could have been a disaster, but instead was so good that it turned the lunch from a meal into actual entertainment.

A close second favorite was the Mountain Tropp that again pairs things that you would never think could go together, like black beans and apples. The guy making these things is definitely the good kind of crazy (and not bad to look at either. Note for my single girls.)

Goatocado started as a festival food truck, but has claimed a pretty permanent spot on the VCU campus on the corner of Floyd and Linden. The rumor is that the owner, Ian, is considering planting roots here in the city. And by roots I mean, opening a brick and mortar location. As far as I’m concerned, if it is served in on a patio, in a dining room, on wheels, or on cinder blocks, you should find a way to get some.

You don’t have to take my word for it. Here are some quotes from my (non-vegetarian) coworkers:

“I didn’t even miss the meat.”

“I have no clue what I just ate, but it was good!”

“How the hell did he figure out that all these things go together?
